Things Are Tough

People are losing their jobs. There's a great recession in our country and throughout the world. Banks are failing. The Swine Flu is officially a pandemic. Foreclosures are at an all-time high. Cities and states are struggling with their finances as are the average family. So what else can go wrong? Things sure seem tough, don't they?

Things seem so bad that it may not get better. The only problem with an assessment like that is that it's wrong. Thing will get better for the masses. We've been there before. But here's the reality of tough times. It opens up a lot of opportunities for those people who are willing to notice them.

You can move forward in your life, especially during these so-called "tough times." If you fully understand in every adversity lies opportunity, then you will move forward. You may have to develop certain skills that are needed. Let me explain. When I mean opportunity, what I'm talking about are finding solutions to problems. The more problems you find and can offer solutions to, the more opportunities are being presented to you.

One area of opportunity has to do with small businesses. Many are struggling to make ends meet, right? The main reason is that there's not enough business for them. It's the same for larger businesses. In any economy it's all about cash flow throughout the whole system that makes it work. Once that happens, then businesses will feel safe to start hiring again. What if you had a certain amount of expertise to understand this? What if you could start helping small businesses in your area? Don't you think that would solve a lot of problems?

If you are already working in a business, what opportunities within your own work can you exploit? Again, it's the same thing.

There are other areas where you can prosper. Communication is a key area in all parts of our society. The ability to speak and write effectively is important. There are opportunities for those people who have those abilities. Businesses and other organizations need highly competent people to handle these areas. That's especially true during a crisis as well as in marketing.

If you have a special skill, then you may need to update it. The people who will always be needed are the ones who are constantly learning and improving themselves. Never, ever rest on your laurels. Keep improving. Don't expect your employer or somebody else to pay your way to school or some other form of learning. You've got to take action. It's up to you, period.

Sometimes people need a little help in getting going. This includes the momentum that helps them maintain forward movement. A coach will do just that and hold you accountable. Through specialized education and experience, a good coach will help you to be motivated, setting goals, and taking action. You will continuously be taking some sort of action towards a worthy goal. That includes skill-building (which includes communication skills).

Be a wanted person in the marketplace so when the going gets tough, you'll always be working.
