I have seen many young lacrosse players asking questions in forums for the fastest way to become a better Lacrosse goalie. Is there a secret trick, or a magic pill I can take? Of course the answer is an absolute NO! There is no magic way to become a better goalie other than hard work and dedication. I am here to help you with a few tips on becoming a better Lacrosse goalie and on your way to success.

1) The first must is to get in shape. Growing up, the mind set trying to fill our lacrosse team was to get the biggest fattest kid in net, because he would take up the most room. This is the wrong idea to being with. Lacrosse is a athletic sport and if you are not in shape you will not be able to move fast enough to stop the ball, no less run and clear the ball down the field. Run, lift weights, eat healthy, and ask your gym coaches for advice on the best regime for you.

2) Hold the stick correctly. Most goalies claim to already know how to hold a lacrosse stick already but most of them are blowing smoke out of their ass. The stick should be held with the thumb and forefinger or with two fingers and the thumb. choking the stick or a full hand grip limits flexibility.

Your hands should be 12-14 inches apart, with the top hand right below the plastic "throat". Make sure the stick is kept at eye level, use the thumb as a gauge how high to hold the stick head. Holding your stick low means a goalie has to make two moves to make a save.. Your arms should be away from the body and the bottom hand is extended further out then the top.

3) Third, you need to be able to attack the ball. Stepping to the ball conditions your muscles and mind to able quickly and explosively stop the Lacrosse Ball. Whenever a ball is shot, you will instinctively move to the ball as it becomes second nature. In addition stepping to the ball, you cut off the angle to the Lacrosse net giving you an advantage to stopping the shot.

4) Lastly, there is no substitute for this whatsoever. You need the repetition of seeing shots coming at you. Go to camps, have friends shoot on you addressing bounce shots, high, low and middle shooting areas. Get your brother to shoot on you in backyard. You need the workload and experience of being shot on because that is the best and only way to become a better keeper.
