Among the most used camera filters out there are those known as polarisers. These filters have many uses, and can do a vast array of remarkable things. This would include reducing reflections on glass and water (ideal if you want to photograph through the surface, and not just photograph the surface), as well as boost the color of various other painted or shiny surfaces. In short, it is one of those accessories that you must have!

Another popular type of camera filters would have to be soft focus filters. These filters generally do exactly what they claim to do -- add a quality of 'softness' to any and all photographs that are taken with them. Undoubtedly you've seen the end result of soft focus filters in the past -- as they're often used to add a misty look and romantic feel to certain scenes.

Next up there are multi image camera filters that provide multiple images within a single shot. So if you have a multi image filter set on 4 images, you'd end up with 4 repetitions on the same image every time you click the shutter button. While limited in terms of practical usage, it is often used to create 'fun' shots, as some multi image filters also come with color filters that recolor each image in a different hue.

As you can see, there really are tons of different types of camera filters out there that you can use in your photography. Truth be told, even this is really just the tip of the iceberg, and if you were to go looking, you'd probably find out that there's a filter for every different type of effect you could hope to create within your photography.
